Golf has witnessed a great upswing over the past two decades following the fall of
the communist regime in the Czech Republic. At the moment there are 87 golf courses, some of them ranking among first-class European golf venues, and new ones are being built – so that´s why we may proudly call our country the Country of Golf.
As a golf player you may feel as in a fairytale. You namely find many golf courses
offering a perfect play near beautiful castles and chateaus and their parks.
You will be fascinated by the panoramic views of Karlštejn, the majestic castle of the Czech kings very close to Prague that can be enjoyed directly from a Golf Resort Karlštejn course. A Golf Resort Konopiště which is situated only five kilometres from the highly-acclaimed Konopiště chateau belongs to the nicest golf courses in the Czech Republic. An 18 hole course of Golf Clubs Kynžvart was certificated last year. The Classicist Kynžvart castle facing today the tidy greens was chosen as a summer seat by the Austrian chancellor Metternich. And the 27 hole golf course stretching next to the south Bohemian chateau jewel Hluboká nad Vltavou is definitely worth visiting as well.
The first golf course on the territory of the present-day Czech Republic was established in Karlovy Vary in 1904. The golf course in Marianske Lazně was opened by the King of Great Britain, Edward VII, a year after. Both courses were mostly used by foreign spa visitors and only rarely by local players. The beginnings of truly Czech golf relate to the activities of the Ringhoffer family just before the First World War. In 1926, these activities led to the founding of the first Czech golf club, Golf Club Praha, which organized the first tournament there in 1927.
